Turkey > Mediterranean Region > Kalkan Villa Akkaya has a commanding view from the southwest side of Kalkan – a nearly uninterrupted 240 degree panorama over olive groves and distant rooftops and out over the bays and Snake Island. The villa with its rounded façade and floor-to-ceiling windows gives great views from indoors as well as out. The villa gets all the sun there is to get – but also offers comfort in shade when you want to escape it. And being on the hill, there are often welcome cooling breezes. We are at the end of an unmade road that stops at our villa, so passing traffic will not disturb you. Located at the end of a road that stops at the villa, Villa Akkaya sleeps six, is privately owned with its own pool, a secluded patio and is within easy reach of Kalkan, a village on the South West Mediterranean coast, fast becoming known as the ‘St Tropez’ of Turkey. Kalkan - near Antalya - was an old fishing village and is ideally situated for exploring Turkey's heritage sites such as Xanthos, Pinara and Tlos. Although the village is now a lively resort it hasn’t lost its charm or been spoilt by commercial businesses. The cobbled streets are full of craft and other interesting shops but when you’re all shopped out, fine dining in one of the many rooftop terrace restaurants is hard to beat as one of the evening attractions. And there are lots of other ways to while away the time including drinking local wines at one of the many bars or dining in one of the places serving high quality Turkish food where the locals eat. Completely uninterrupted 240 degree panorama over olive groves and distant rooftops. About the area Kalkan is a small, peaceful Mediterranean resort on the beautiful Turquoise Coast of Turkey. More sophisticated than many resorts, Kalkan has not been touched by mass tourism, and is special: everyone who has visited it says so, and many return time and time again. The town overlooks a beautiful bay, and the sea shimmers. Narrow streets twist down to the harbour, and are lined with whitewashed villas with shuttered windows, alongside small local specialty shops and restaurants. Unlike other Turkish coastal resort towns, Kalkan's main economy is tourism and therefore its people put much pride and effort into looking after the visitor. The people of Kalkan happily welcome you, and you may at first be surprised by the universal friendliness within the town. We have found it absolutely genuine. Good dining has always been the way of life in Kalkan and it is said to have the highest number of restaurants and bars per square metre on the Turkish coast. Its numerous roof-top terrace restaurants and bars offer a wonderful view of the town, the sea and the stars. Kalkan is a small town of only a few thousand, and this creates a wonderful intimate feeling. You will not be hassled while you shop in Kalkan, and with the shops, bars and cafes staying open at least until midnight, you have every opportunity to enjoy the town. Villa Akkaya looks down on the town and on the bay, close enough to enjoy but far enough for peace and privacy.
