This is the lovely area of the Charente Maritime which has its own micro climate from May to October. Our lively market town of Surgeres has plenty to offer if you wish to stay close to home without having to drive. A wonderful selection of restaurants, cafes, parkland and river walks with lovely mediaeval chateau walls. Only half an hour away is the chic city of La Rochelle with exceptional shopping, fine cuisine and busy harbour plus the glorious beaches of Chatellailon Plage and Fouras. Don't forget to visit the islands of Ile de Re and Ile d'Oleron for a unique experience and more fantastic beaches. So much to see in this region, Poitiers - home to the Futuroscope, Cognac to sample some tastings and the Marais Poitevin for a lovely day out in The Green Venice where you can take a leisurely punt on the canals. Numerous other interesting towns to visit including the Roman town of Saintes, Royan, Rochefort and St Jean d'Angely. You won't be disappointed in this area only that you don't have enough time to see it all! We have the second hottest climate to the Cote d'Azur but we're so much nearer.
