Spain > Andalucia (Costa del Sol) > Costa de la Luz > Cadiz > Olvera
Olvera is a delightful base from which to explore the surrounding region. It is one of the prettiest pueblo blanco surrounded by olive groves and orange trees. The 12th Century Moorish Castle has recently been renovated and is now open to the public. The views from the castle are not to be missed. The disused railway line running through the beautiful surrounding countryside is accessible from Olvera and has been recently transformed into the Via Verde, offering walking and cycling on the doorstep. Ronda, home of the famous El Tajo gorge and Spain's oldest bullring is just 30 minutes drive. There are also numerous activity companies in Ronda who can arrange guided walks, horse riding, cycling and canyoning +++. A range of information brochures, as well as local guides are provided in the house. Also on the doorstep is the gorgeous Zahara de la Sierra with its outstanding lakes and the stunning mountains and natural park at Grazalema. Don't forget to pay a visit to Jerez de la Frontera, the home of sherry and you can even take a day trip to Seville from Olvera. Nearby Setenil is a dramatic village constructed under overhanging caves. The Cadiz province is unspoilt and friendly and largely undiscovered, so now is the time to visit. Winters are also a delightful time of year to discover the region, skies are blue and the sun rarely fails to shine. Olvera is 1hr 30 from Malaga airport and slightly closer to Jerez airport. |
