Casa Roma is in the hilltop village of Vergemoli, in the Garfagnana region of northern Tuscany. The Apuane Alps are a nature reserve, and offer excellent walking and bird-watching. The Garfagnana is famous for its food, especially farro (spelt) and locally cured meats and cheeses. The area is within easy reach of Pisa Airport, Florence, Siena and the Tuscan Coast with its famed Cinque Terre.

Vergemoli is 39km from Lucca and 65km from Pisa Airport. The drive from Pisa takes about 90 minutes.
All shops and services are available locally in both Gallicano or Castelnuovo di Garfagnana: there is an excellent supermarket 15 minutes' drive away, and many fine local restaurants within easy reach. Prices vary but are generally half what you would pay in the UK.
Much locally produced food is organic and the Slow Food movement has several restaurants in the area.
