Nanaimo is a central location on Vancouver Island that offers day trips to the Gulf Islands, West Coast and to southern locations, such as Victoria. It is a bustling community with a beautiful harbour that is abundant with both recreational boating and float planes. Theatre is available at the Port Theatre as well as many other smaller locations. Restaurants are plentiful and have many great water views. There are several shopping malls for those who care to shop. BC Ferries provide transportation to the BC Coast and Gulf Islands from many locations in and near Nanaimo. For those who enjoy hiking, trails are abundant. The shoreline offers opportunities to see wildlife.
Bald eagles are plentiful in the spring and fall and can be seen from the deck of Eaglepoint Bed and Breakfast. Many UK folks have made their home in Nanaimo.
