About Kaprun - Zell Am See - Austrian Alps
Zell am See and Kaprun are only 10 minutes apart by bus, and one ski pass covers both resorts and bus transfers. Barrack and Schuttdorf are smaller and quieter skiing hamlets nearby. There are plenty of all year round activities. In the summer you can even ski on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.
There are 2 ski areas:
Kaprun is near the Kitzsteinhorn glacier an it has a great range of runs and all-year skiing for the intermediate and beginner. There are plenty of ski schools & ski rental shops in Kaprun.
The Schmittenhöhe mountain behind the town of Zell am See has 80 km of piste. This has some excellent terrain for the advanced skier.
Zell am See and Kaprun have everything to offer you for an active holiday :
In fact about 40 different kinds of sports everything from walking and biking to more extreme sports like canoeing and rafting, as well as skiing and snowboarding.
You can ski and snowboard on the wonderful powder snow even in the summer. This is because the Kitzsteinhorn glacier guarantees snow 365 days a year. Kaprun and Zell am See form ‘Europa-Sportregion’.
Both towns have many shops, cafes and restaurants. The après-ski is lively and typically Austrian, there are many bars to choose from and several discos. There are over 40 restaurants in the area.
The valley is surrounded by beautiful mountains and very attractive scenery. Kaprun Castle is ideal for sightseeing, dating from the 12th century and mentioned for the first time in 1280.
The castle festival is one of the highlights of the summer programme of the Europa-Sportregion. Lasting two days, you are transported back to medieval times with parades, jousting, witches, jugglers, and magicians.
Nestling on the scenic shores of Lake Zell, Zell am See is a charming small town. You will find a wide range of shops, restaurants, cosy pavement cafes and off-slope activities in its medieval traffic-free centre. In midwinter the lake freezes over and can be used for ice skating and curling. |
