Located at the epicentre of Norfolk’s finest attractions you are only a short drive away from excellent golf, walks, cycle rides and the North Norfolk coastline. Within 30 minute's drive are the Norfolk Broads at Wroxham, known as the `capital' of the Broads, where there are plenty of boats for hire or day cruises to enjoy. Across the River Bure is Hoveton, an attractive, typical Broads village with picturesque shops and houses. At Hoveton Hall there are 10 acres of gardens open to the public, including a Victorian kitchen garden and some rare species of azaleas and rhododendrons, best appreciated in May and June. Hickling Broad is a nature reserve and a haven for migrating birds, including sandpipers, osprey and spoonbills; it also offers excellent fishing, especially for pike and bream, and a number of nature trails to explore.
Full of cultural attractions, the city of Norwich lies just 20 minutes away, offering interests for all tastes, from history and architecture to art galleries, shops and leisure activities. The city still retains the charm and character of its past, with an abundance of cobbled streets, narrow alleys and secluded courtyards, as well as some fine buildings, including the old Guildhall, which overlooks the colourful marketplace. The splendid cathedral boasts some of Britain's finest Gothic architecture and a wealth of internal carvings, while high on a hill stands the 12th-century Norman castle, which now houses the Castle Museum. In the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts some fine art works by Picasso, Moore and Bacon can be seen, along with work from Africa and America.
There is easy touring to the Norfolk coast. Cromer (23 miles), is possibly most famous for its sandy beaches backed by crumbling cliffs. In the evenings brightly coloured boats return fishermen and their catches to the shores; the fleshy Cromer crabs are a notable delicacy - making no visit to the town complete without a trip to one of the many fishmongers or restaurants. There are many excellent trails in this area, the most popular being the Weavers Way. Covering some 56 miles it passes through ever-changing landscapes of farmland, woodland, valleys and marshes. The nearby Norfolk Coast Path offers excellent walking. Riding and pony-trekking locally.
