Only 1 hour from Calais, but a world away.
Our houses are set in a hamlet in the beautiful Authie valley - one of the "7 valleys" of the region.
Equally ideal for those seeking a quiet getaway where they can soak up the French culture or those looking for a base for a wealth of activities.
Huge, golden beaches are 15 miles away at Berck, Fort Mahon and the picturesque St. Valery.
For the more adventurous, Berck in particular is a centre for sand surfing, kite surfing and kite flying.
Children of all ages will love the Bagatelle amusement park (30 mins), the Aqualud water complex (40 mins) and making dens in the 5.5 acres of pasture land that surround the house.
Golf courses abound.
The river Authie (which forms the border between Pas-de-Calais and Somme) is 200 yards from the house and is renowned by anglers, especially those seeking migratory fish such as salmon and sea trout. The road running parallel to the river is ideal for cycling and whether you ride, walk, run or drive through the many "Villages Fleuris" [flowered villages], stop off and buy honey, meat, fruit and veg, paté or cider directly from the producers.
Shopaholics won't be disappointed by the chic resort of Le Touquet (40 mins) with its designer shops or the beautiful, "Venice-like" Amiens (1 hour), the walled old town in the port of Boulogne (40 mins) and the Cité de l'Europe and neighbouring designer outlet centres by the channel tunnel (1 hour). Paris is 2.5 hours away. The smaller, quieter market towns of Hesdin (10 mins), Rue (20 mins) and Abbeville (30 mins) may be more to your taste though.
Historians are well catered for as the property is in easy reach are the battlefields of Crecy (5 mins), Agincourt (30 mins) and The Somme (1.5 hours), the military cemetery at Etaples (30 mins) [the largest commission cemetery in France], the secret city at Arras (50 mins) [used by the Allies in WWI and the Germans in WWII as a HQ] and the abbey and stunning gardens at Valloires.
Music lovers will enjoy the weekend festival at Le Touquet at the end of June and the Sons et Lumieres production of "Les Miserables" in the walled town of Montreuil (15 mins) [of which Valjean becomes mayor] at the beginning of August.
Alternatively, take it easy enjoying the scenery, wildlife and fine food and drink of the area with many good, affordable restaurants in easy reach, including a "ferme auberge" less than 1 mile away.
