Sunrise Cottage is a lovely Charentaise stone cottage, two and a half kilometers outside the lovely village of Verteuil-sur-Charente, with it's beautiful castle, in the department of Charente, the second sunniest region in France. The south facing cottage, sleeps 4/5 and sits in an acre of enclosed garden. It is surrounded by fields, woods and quiet lanes, ideal for walking or cycling.

The village of Verteuil-sur-Charente is five kilometers south of the market town of Ruffec. In the village are all amenities including two bakers, post office, two butchers, charcuterie, grocer, tabac, hairdresser and bar/restaurant and of course the castle which is soon to be open to the public.
Visit the working watermill, spend an evening in the 'Dixieland' Bar with live music, pretty courtyard garden and good food. See the ancient church and take a riverside walk. Drive or cycle along the quiet country roads around Verteuil through the many pretty hamlets and villages. 6 kilometres away is river bathing, canoeing, a picnic area and a bar/restaurant for a fun day out.
Ruffec has large supermarkets, various shops, bars and restaurants, indoor and outdoor pool, 2 screen cinema and a weekly market.
Within easy driving distance for a day out are the towns of Poitiers (Futuroscope), Limoges (porcelain), Angouleme and Cognac. Kids will enjoy Monkey Valley 30 minutes away. The coastal town of La Rochelle and west coast sandy beaches are about one and a half hours drive.
The medieval town of Confolens is 45 minutes away. It is particularly famous for its international folklore festival of song and dance known as "Danses et Musiques du Monde", which is held in August every year.
Oradour-sur-Glane is a village that was brutally destroyed by the Nazis in WWII and now preserved as a memorial. It stands today exactly as it was left on 10th June 1944. A very moving and worthwhile experience to visit it.
The area has a lot to offer for an interesting and fun holiday and has wonderful summer weather, being the second sunniest region in France!
Nearest airports are Poitiers, Limoges and Bergerac. The TGV stops at Ruffec. The closest ferry port is St Malo at 4.5 hours drive away but is drivable in a day from all ferry ports.

Changeover day is Saturday. Arrival after 3pm departure before 10am. The cottage is available from October to April for winter lets and house hunting trips. We can take mid week bookings during this period too. Please contact us for rates.

Sunrise Cottage at Champ Giraud is surrounded by fields of maize, sunflowers and woods with tracks and paths ideal for walking and cycling. There is plenty of wildlife to spot including, deer, foxes, hare and buzzards. The clear night skies are spectacular, because of no light pollution, ideal for star gazing. All this makes for a relaxing holiday is an area that has a lot to offer everyone.
The lovely village of Verteuil has all amenities and the river Charente running through it too.
