France > Aquitaine > Dordogne > Campagnac Les Quercy
Campagnac Les Quercy lies in the rural heart of Perigord Noir. Whether canoeing under the shadow of enormous castle topped cliffs, savouring a river cruise, walking through endless woodland or experiencing un-touched village life, this historically impressive area of France has something for everyone. Campagnac Les Quercy is within 25 km s of the renowned medieval town of Sarlat and other equally prestigious sites such as La Roque-Gageac, Beynac, Domme and the famous river Dordogne itself.
The region of Perigord is also justly famous for its cuisine and Campagnac Les Quercy has a brand new restaurant with a lovely terrace, where you can sample this delicious food. The restaurant is also a Bar and shop where you can order bread and/or pain au chocolate for the duration of your stay. There are also plenty of other recommended restaurants just a short drive from this charming village. For every day shopping the nearest Spar type shop is in Campagnac or St Pompom 3Km. For larger weekly shops, Gourdon and Fumel have large supermarkets-Intermarche, Champion Le Clerc etc and a wide choice of bakers, butchers etc. The markets are great fun and Cazal (Sun), Prayssac (Fri) and Cahors (Wed) are our favourites.
The nearest beaches are on the Dordogne and are a short drive 7-10km away. Cenac, Vitrac and Soleil Plage all have beaches where river fishing can be arranged (a permit has to be purchased by the day at the local Marie) and where canoes and kayak can be hired for half or full day descents of the river. Similar facilities are available on the Vezere and Lot rivers. Nearby you will find the town of Villefranche du Perigord. Thanks to a rich associative life, Villefranche offers activities all year round. Villefranche and its surroundings are an ideal place to relax, enjoy a preserved nature, the quietness of crystal-clear brooks, and a world-famous gastronomy: confit, cepes, foie-gras, chestnuts.
Villefranche du Perigord is also the starting point to numerous sites to be visited, such as: the fortress of Bonaguil, Château de Biron, the dry-stone houses and Bories in Campagnac les Quercy, Sarlat (44 km), Monpazier (20 km), Belvès (23 km), Issigeac (40 km), and so many more sites to be discovered in this wonderful region.
Ryanair, BMI, Flybe and Aer Lingus provide scheduled services from Stansted, Gatwick, Dublin, Southampton and a number of other UK regional airports into Bergerac 1hr, Bordeaux 2hrs, Toulouse 2hrs and Carcassone 3.5hrs.
Driving times from the Channel ports range from 8-10 hrs.
