France > Aquitaine > Dordogne > Pechpialat
Located near the medieval city of Domme, close to the small village of Cenac. 10 kms to the Dordogne river with the possibility of swimming, fishing and canoeing. The medieval capital of Sarlat is located 20 km away, and many of the most famous sites of the Dordogne are within 30 minutes drive, including the Châteaux of Beynac and Castelnaud, the charming village of La Roque-Gageac and the prehistoric sites centred around Les Eyzies and the Vézère Valley. Sarlat, the historic market town, has an abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars. Also supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, doctors, dentist and an excellent hospital. There is street entertainment for all the family during the summer evenings with a picturesque market on a Wednesday in the centre of the old part of town, Place de Liberte.
Rocamadour This is the most visited site in France after Versailles and is a must. Always busy this fortified town is perilously perched high on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Alzou valley. Once the centre of medieval Christianity, steeped in history with interesting architecture including the churches and castle. Somewhat commercialised with tourist shops and restaurants with easy access by road train from the large parking areas it is worth a visit for the views alone. Canoeing, Cycling, Fishing, Horse Riding, Swimming, Walking and even Hot Air Ballooning! All these activities and more, are available locally, should you wish to try them. Canoes are available to hire at Cénac, where you can take a trip on the river Dordogne. The location of the house is ideal for walking or cycling to nearby towns and villages.
There are many restaurants to discover. Depending on your tastes, you could spend an evening in nearby Sarlat, where you will find a choice of fine dining amongst the splendid medieval architecture. We can recommend the restaurant at the Hôtel Au Bon Accueil in Limeuil, situated at the top of the village, you can dine on the terrace under the old grape vine canopy during the warm summer evenings. Hôtel du Château in Campagne has a very nice restaurant, with a choice of Périgordian menus. Also, try Le Bistrot den Face a small restaurant in the village square of Trémolat, where you can enjoy locally prepared cuisine and home made puddings. If you feel the need for some retail therapy, then head for the bigger towns like Bergerac (45mins drive), or Sarlat (10mins) where you will find more variety of shops. There are Hypermarkets near the larger towns, if you wish to buy in bulk for instance, and are easily found.
By Air The nearest airport is Bergerac, which is approx 60 Min's drive to the house. There are alternative airports at Bordeaux, Toulouse and Limoges. London Stansted to Bergerac, takes approx 1hour 15mins (Hire Cars and Taxis are available at the airport)
By Car Calais to Cenac 540 miles - approx 8.5-9.5 hours, Boulogne to Cenac 510 miles - approx 8 -9 hours, Roscoff to Cenac 510 miles at approx 8.5-9.5 hours, St Malo to Cenac 430 miles at approx 6.5 -7.5 hours |
