Greece > Ionian Islands > Ithaca > Lefki
Lefki is a small village near the larger village of Stavros in the north part of the island of Ithaca. The area is of outstanding beauty and full of delightful walks, through olive groves and to quiet and secluded beaches. This is an ideal place to relax and unwind, or to explore the hidden secrets of Homer's Oddyssey - walk in the footsteps of Oddysseus as he climbed the mountain to rejoin his beloved wife Penelope, who had waited patiently for him for 20 years... or just sit back and enjoy the stunning view across to neighbouring Kefalonia instead.
Later you can sit out under the stars at the delightful Polyphemus taverna in Stavros with its charmingly decorated garden and enjoy the delicious creations of one of the best chefs in Greece. Or go to your host Yianni's Taverna and enjoy his wife Dorothy's famous cheese starters - he will even give you a free lift home again afterwards (he is not only the local mayor, but also the best taxi driver on the island...)
This is a truly magical place and as the poet wrote, "Once you visit Ithaki, you will return" - just like Oddysseus did... |

How to Get There: Flights are direct to Kefalonia from most major UK airports between May and October, out of season fly via Athens.
Once in Kefalonia either collect your hire car direct from the airport - we can recommend a reliable car hire company who give a very personal service, and drive to Sami (approx. 40 minute drive through the stunning Omala valley) to take the ferry across to Ithaca (25 minutes). Or we can arrange a taxi to collect you from the airport and take you to the ferry.
Yianni will meet you off the ferry and take you to Lefki (15 minutes drive from the ferryport) and settle you into the apartment. He will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have whilst you are there. Email me for further information. |
