Spain > Andalucia (Costa del Sol) > Costa del Sol > Malaga > Alcaucin
Alcaucin The village of Alcaucin is 54 kilometres from Malaga and 20 kilometres from Velez-Malaga. There is a daily bus service to both destinations. The village lies at a height of 508 metres above sea level and has a population of about 1.500 inhabitants.
It nests on a hillside in the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda mountains. The mountain pass at Zafarraya, a gigantic V shaped opening in the sierras is clearly visible from the town and is a characteristic part of the local landscape.
Alcaucin is situated on the lower western slope of La Maroma in the Sierra Tejeda mountain range. It lies within the area of Axarquia, on the scenic Route of Olive Oil and Mountains, and has a population of 1,500.
The municipality of Alcaucín extends into the northern part of the Axarquía, between the Sierra Tejeda and the flatter Periana area, between the spectacular Boquete de Zafarraya cliffs and the Axarquia mountains. The most direct road to the town is by the main road to Velez. It displays the typical characteristics of the Axarquia villages, with its steep, narrow streets lined with white houses.
Alcaucín little town has bars, restaurants and shops where buying food and other things. For special things the town of Velez Malaga is just 20Km driving.
It is a very peaceful place to live in the nature, with Lake Vinuela in a short drive and the Natural Park in the mountains where there can be snow in the winter time |
