Casentino valley is an area of north eastern Tuscany, located in the Province of Arezzo. Right in the middle of a little medieval village, located at 750m. a.s.l. near Poppi, our house features rooms with exposed beams, original terracotta tiles, typical Tuscan rural furniture and a big garden within a stone's throw.

Crossed by the Arno, the same river that flows through Florence, Casentino valley reminds of an amphitheatre, surrounded by soft hills and the imposing crests of Falterona and Pratomagno mountains.
Because of its relative isolation and its stainless beauty, this valley has been chosen by monks and religious, who founded their monasteries in La Verna and Camaldoli. Because of its strategic position it fell a prey to the Florentines.
In 1289,Guelphs and Ghibellines fought a bloody battle over the Campaldino plain, near Poppi. Traces of this glorious past are its castles, medieval villages and ruins, remembered by Dante as well, who sojourned here during its exil: Poppi, Romena, Porciano, Talla, Castel S. Niccolò, Montemignaio and Fronzola.
Part of this territory is occupied by the National Park, which, as the whole Casentino, offer nice surroundings for walking tours, horse or mountainbike rides. Much appreciated are the typical products of Casentino valley: mushrooms, chestnuts, smoked ham, honey and ravioli filled with potatoes.
In Poppi (8kms.) and in Bibbiena (10kms.), you will find general stores, shops and sport centers (public swimming pool, golf course, etc.). The close city of Arezzo offers further cultural artistic and eno-gastronomical diversions.

This unit is part of a complex. It can be rented with other properties should you wish to holiday with a larger group.
Casa Merli is available for check-in only by appointment after 4PM, preferably on Saturdays. As we do not have a 24-hour desk, we ask that, whenever possible, all check-ins occur within 8 PM. Check out time is 12:00 noon. Pets not allowed.

Casa Merli (max 6 people)
Casa Merli is on three levels and 95sm. in total. It has been recently and completely restored and can accommodate from 2 up to 6 people. It consists of a ground floor with living room and kitchen with original stone fireplace and of a first floor which provides a bath with shower, a double bed room, a twin double room and a lovely garret with twin beds. Our garden (1000sm.) is divided as originally into two parts: Casa Merli features a 700 sm. of it supplied with garden furniture (the entrance to the garden is in common with Casa Merli guests). An exclusive space right in the middle of a Tuscan medieval village consisting mostly of narrow alleys and the ideal place for your sunbathing relaxing days.
Casa Merli enjoys a nice position right in the middle of an old hamlet of nearly 100 inhabitants. You can reach it with little/middle sized cars but please be aware that hamlet alleys are in general narrow and steep. Once luggage has been carried in the house, we generally ask our guests to preferably park their car/cars 50 or max 150 meters from the house (either free parking spaces in or right outside the hamlet).
In the garden there is a little stone storehouse which provides a washing machine to be used by all our guests.
The village offers two grocery stores with local products for sale. |
