Italy > Abruzzo > Chieti > Torino de Sangro
Cavone is a small olive and grape farming community near to the village of Torino di Sangro in Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy. It is located 4km from the beautiful sandy beaches of 'le morge' and 'Casabordino Lido' and is an ideal holiday for families, couples and groups. The local beaches have been awarded European blue flags.
For those of you who have not heard of Abruzzo, until 2 years ago neither had I although I had been to other parts of Italy. Abruzzo is a spectacular region on the Adriatic Coast with a unique mixture of mountains and sea in close proximity. In certain months of the year you can ski in the morning and swim in the sea in the afternoon. The ski resort we favour is Passo Lanciano which is easily accessible and provides some of the cheapest skiing in Europe as well as offering a good range of Piste and the usual ski services - ski schools, ski, boot, snowboard hire and lessons.
For those fond of walking, hiking or cycling, bird-spotting the area is ideal.
The nearby towns of Vasto in the South and Lanciano in the North gives access to other facilities such as shopping centres, Bowling Alleys, Waterparks.
In the village itself there is a Gym, Tennis and Football. Towards the beaches there are a number of small camping areas with a range of pools, beach games and childrens activities. Visit the area outside of July and August and the beaches are clear and clean and the sea is warm from April to October. Visit in July and August and the Italian beach life style can be enjoyed with the associated festivals, live music, fireworks and general fun. Away from the beach the lakes and rivers give other options for excursions and activities including picnics, canooing and water sports.
The region has the most amazingly diverse cuisine which reflects its diverse crops, fishing and animal produce. Tradition is everything in Abruzzo and the people are keen to make you welcome. The area has a wealth of ancient and modern history and tradition. Torino di Sangro is the home to the Commonwealth cemetery for the fallen in World War II and is a fitting memorial to the recent history of the area. |

The house is newly renovated and this is the first full year that it has been available for booking. It has been furnished and finished to a high standard and is a lovely haven from which to explore the region or to stay local and enjoy the rural location. There are balconies on three sides of the house to take advantage of the picturesque surroundings and the house itself is well equipped with modern facilities. The views from the house are both spectacular and soothing.
Enjoy outdoor eating and barbecue's on one of the two terraces or in the grounds which surround the house. There are over 30 olive trees, peach, lemon, orange and pine trees. You could even pick a paw paw if you can master the prickles.
Local good quality wine is available at 1 Euro per litre and local food is varied, good quality, healthy and cheap.
The house is well connected being only 7 minutes from the Autostrada exit at Val di Sangro and is only 2 and a half hours from Rome airports or half an hour from Pescara airport. Ryanair offer cheap flights from London Stansted and from the North Ryanair offer Liverpool to Rome or Ancona (2 hour drive up the Adriatic Coast). There is a connecting flight from Blackpool to Stansted if you don't fancy the drive and they are really cheap.
There is an extensive welcome book with details on the area, places to eat, places to see, things to do, history and culture. We will be happy to assist you in your travel plans or any local arrangements to make your visit memorable and comfortable. Don't hesitate to ask if there is any help you require.
Come in April to October and you can expect a climate better than that of August in England, come November and March and you can expect pleasant days and an opportunity for strolls along the promenades along the Adriatic coast and skiing in the Maiella mountains. October and November are really busy times for the locals as the wine harvest takes up most of October and Olive harvest takes up November. Come and participate in the Olive harvest and visit the local mills. Come in December to February and the ski resorts are in full swing but uncrowded in the week. Wrap up warm though it does get cold but very rarely below freezing near the coast. When you need some relaxation and enjoyment come to Abruzzo.
