We are on the outskirts of Le Langon, a farming village overlooking fields of sunflowers, maize, and Connemara ponies. The regional park of the Marais Poitevin, famous for its aquatic flora and fauna, surrounds us. This area is ideal for walking and cycling. The historic town of Fontenay le Comte with its restaurants and shops is only 12Km away and has a swimming pool. It is only forty minutes drive to the Atlantic coast with the lovely sandy beaches of La Faute and La Tranche. A bit further south is the medieval town of La Rochelle with its old port, aquarium and yacht harbour, with many restaurants to savour the Charantaise cuisine and local wines and spirits

Tourist Attractions
Maillezais Abbey
These grandiose ruins of a former cathedral overlooking the waterways of the Marais Poitevin was once the burial place of the Dukes of Aquitane.
Marais Poitevin and Venise Vert
To discover the these two areas of natural beauty you can take a ride on a traditional flat boat (punt) or canoe. Aria Loisirs Embarcarderes and L’Embarcadere de L’Abbaye (beneath the walls of the Abbey) are two places where you can hire boats.
Chateau de Terre Neuve
The château is open all the year round and is a listed historic monument. It was built in 1580 by Nicolas Rapin. It is renowned for its monumental fireplace and stone carved coffered ceilings. The original paintings, furniture and items of clothing are from the 17th and 18th centuries.
Vouvant
This is a historical town surrounded by a large forest area where there are numerous well sign-posted walks. Nearby are the Mervent Adventure Park and a Zoo.
Faymoreau
A coal mining village with a museum where you can experience going down a mineshaft to the coal face.
Court D’Aron Floral and Tropical Park
West of the town of Luçon where you can take a tour of the worlds luxuriant plant heritage. |
