Turkey > Aegean Region > Bodrum > Yalikavak
The area benefits from a beautiful year round climate and is comprised of busy market towns, typical fishing villages and stunning scenery. The whole area is steeped in history, with many ancient sites to visit just a stones throw away. Within Bodrum itself you will find over 5000 years of history right on your doorstep, make sure you visit:
The Mausoleum is Bodrums' oldest antiquity, and was built by Artemisia II in honour of her husband King Mausolos. It was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and Mausolus's name is now associated with all stately tombs through our modern word Mausoleum.
The ancient Amphi-theatre is another witness to the rich history of Bodrum. Perched on the hillside overlooking Bodrum this ancient marvel was built between 330-30 BC.
The castle of St Peter is now one of the finest museums in the region. The castle dates back to the knights of St John, and served as the sole refuge of Christains on the West Coast during the crusades
The busy town of Bodrum is a hive of activity with many market stalls and friendly locals. The local restaurants and bars are excellent and reasonably priced. Bodrum is famous for its leather goods, glass beads, carpets and natural sponges.
The beaches in the area are fabulous with golden sands and azure seas. The nearest beach is 0.5km and Yalikavak is just 3km away and here you will find a selection of quality hotels who will allow non-residents to use their facilities.
You will find a wide range of activities to enjoy in the area which include: Diving courses, river rafting, parasailing, snorkeling, jet skis, aqua parks, horse riding, and jeep safaris to name but a few. If you are feeling even more adventurous you could try your hand at paragliding, hot air ballooning and mountaineering.
If that all sounds a little strenuous you can take a village tour and discover the less seen but no less beautiful side of Turkey. Here life is tranquil and moves at a slower pace than the more touristy areas. Your tour will include Lunch, Local drinks, professional tour guide, transportation, Sight seeing and a Turkish Coffee house.
Or visit the Greek island of Cos, which is just 20 minutes away if you travel by Hydrofoil. |
