France > Aquitaine > Dordogne
The Dordogne is divided into four areas known collectively as The Perigord - Blanc, Noir, Vert and Poupre. The word which sums up our area is 'abundant'. Plenty of lush greenness and marvellous views, many beautiful buildings - both private and public to feed the architect in you, scintillating and passionate history, numerous romantic walks and rides, a plethora of 'caves' (wine stores) where your taste-buds can be seduced by local wines and last, but naturally for France not least, the food, which, if bought from one of the many local markets (held weekly in all the local villages and towns), is both fresh and largely organic.
Of course, you can enjoy a snack, feast or banquet at any of the local restaurants - most of which either speak, or have a menu in English. If, after all that, you require some sporting activity, there is canoeing on the Dordogne river - only 2km away; golf and tennis can be found within 5km and the garden is always grateful for a bit of help from the gardeners amongst you! Of course, you can just relax, soak up the sun and float or swim in our own pool - if that is what you really want to do. At the back of the house, there is an additional courtyard, which is very calm and good for meditation or Tai Chi.
There are walnut and fruit trees, you are welcome to eat the produce.
We are in a small, peaceful hamlet, the nearest town of Le Buisson de Cadouin is only 1km away - about 15 minutes walk down to it and, depending, of course, on how much wine you have consumed, about 30 minutes to 3 hours walk back! Within walking distance from the house, you can find the recently discovered 'Grottes de Maxange' - caves with beautiful ice sculptures and well worth a visit.
In Le Buisson, there are restaurants and cafes, a cinema, post office, bank, pharmacy, railway station and all the usual shops. The market takes place every Friday, which is great fun and worth getting up a little earlier than usual to visit. Markets start early and usually close down about lunchtime - pretty much like the rest of France.
The slightly larger towns of Bergerac and Perigueux are only a 40 minute drive away and perfect for shopaholics, as they both host many streets lined with traditional French and souvenir shops and 30 minutes away is Sarlat, a medieval town famous for its beautiful architecture and other tourist attractions. Bergerac also has a small airport, with flights from Southampton and Stanstead taking under two hours, this makes a very quick trip from England to the house.
For those of you who wish to explore other areas of the Dordogne, there is plenty of information at the house, which will fully appraise you of places of interest, sights, walks, entertainment and sports to be found further afield.
We wish that you will find whatever it is you are hoping for. We believe our home to be a space where the energy is clear and balanced and wish you joy and harmony while you spend time there. |
