Champex is a picturesque village nestled in the Swiss Alps at a height of 1500 mts part of the Mont Blanc Massif In the French speaking Canton of Valais, Champex is ideally located for easy access to both the French and Italian Alps.
It is only a 20 minute drive to the historic town of Martigny that contains the ruins of a roman amphitheatre, the world famous Pierre Gianadda Art Foundation, the St Bernards Dog Museum (great for the kids!) as well as street cafes and restaurants. The Rhone Valley is also a famous wine region producing some of Switzerlands best wines.
For outdoor enthusiasts Champex offers all round activities. In the winter there is skiing within the village. Access to Verbier and the Four Valleys close by (20 mins drive to Le Chable cable car). In Summer magnificent hikes in the surrounding mountains. Champex is situated on the Tour du Mont-Blanc a challenging circular trail passing through the countries: France, Italy and Switzerland and setting for the Ultra Trail endurance race.
For those wishing to simply relax, the village a communal swimming pool and tennis court. Boats are also available to hire on the lake. The region is also know for its natural spas, Lavey les Bains is well situated between Montreaux and Martigny.
If you are planning to come to use Champex as a place to relax and walk in the local mountains trails then using public transport is fine. But if you are planning to explore a wider area or use Champex as a base to ski in Verbier or Chamonix then although it is possible to use public transport a car is highly recommended.
Location: Nearest Airport Geneva 152km. Aosta (I) 68 km Chamonix (F) 56 km. Train and bus services to Champex go via Orsière.
Champex is a truly great base to explore this wonderful region. There is really so much to see and to do and so much delicious Swiss cheese and Swiss chocolate to eat!
