Pickering is the home of the famous North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, which runs eighteen miles to the village of Grosmont. It calls at various stations including Goathland, made famous as "Aidensfield" home of the television series "Heartbeat". The station was also used in the "Harry Potter" films. Four miles away is Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo, the UK's fourth most visited park. Within walking distance is Thornton Le Dale whilst a little further Hutton Le Hole, each compete for the most picturesque village in Yorkshire. A drive of approximately thirty minutes takes you to the coastal resorts of either Scarborough or Whitby. An alternative is to take the short drive to the historic city of York. |
