With the long hot summer due for 2009, British holidaymakers are being urged to boost the UK economy by taking domestic and short breaks this year rather than travelling abroad. With so many lovely and relaxing places to visit in the UK we really are spoilt for choice. Why not combine Britains best beaches with the lively seaside town pleasures such as the piers, and traditional ice cream. Cornwall has some of the best beaches and also why not have a go at surfing, which is poplar and often associated with this part of the UK.
UK residents took more than 45 million holiday trips overseas last year, spending an average of £565 per trip. However, with the economic problems and flight taxes, holidaying in the UK is fast becoming an option. Holiday homes and holiday cottages are also a great way to make the most of a holiday with small children as the majority provide home from home comforts.
In the same period there were 52 million domestic holiday trips taken, with an average spend of £219. Holiday makers are now starting to see just what the UK has to offer and with the warm weather predicted you can also enjoy some outdoors fun. Why not visit the Lake District or The Cotswolds, take a trip to Scotland and visit the highlands and also Edinburgh castle.
In spite of the general economic gloom, and the decrease in overseas visitors, the UK tourist sector could provide a real boost to the ecomomy and with so many areas of outstanding beauty, clean beaches, diverse city breaks and countryside - you really can see why.
