In the future long haul flights around the world become just that little bit easier for travellers around the globe because of the introduction of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner later on in 2008. This particular aircraft is currently in production and is scheduled to be available for use by airlines around the world by November 2008.
But just what is so special about this particular aircraft over the many others that are already filling up the skies. Well firstly this aircraft is much lighter than other aircraft currently being used and will be able to travel further distances than any other, but still only using the same amount of fuel as them. This will then result in the many different airlines that choose to have this as part of their fleet the chance to offer their customers flights to far reaching locations without having to worry about stopping in order to refuel.
Certainly travelling to Australia, New Zealand, Japan or China in the future this will make these kinds of flights more attractive to those who would otherwise not want to. As it means no longer will they have to wait around for hours at another airport whilst their flight is refuelled.
Although it is a midsized aircraft, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner has a wide body and twin jet engines and will be able to comfortably carry between 210 and 330 passengers on each flight. But how many it actually carries will depend largely on the ways in which the seats within the aircraft have been configured.
The main difference within the cabin of this aircraft is that it is 15 inches wider than other similar aircraft. But it is these additional inches, which provide the additional space, which means that much larger seats for travellers can be installed and there is some additional aisle space as well.
Along with the aircraft providing much large seats and aisle space, the lavatories on these aircrafts are bigger and come with limited wheelchair access to them as well. But probably the biggest difference that you will notice if you fly on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner in the future is that the overhead storage area are much larger than on other aircraft of a similar design. In fact, these storage lockers are able to comfortably hold four bags, which can be rolled aboard the flight.
Another difference in the design of this aircraft is that the windows will be much taller (18.5 inches to be exact) and they come with electrochromic dimmers that can be adjusted electronically. The other new addition on this aircraft over other commercial aircraft today is that it comes with an on onboard wireless network. This allows the streaming of entertainment directly to the screens set in the backs of the seats. Plus this service also allows those who wish to the chance to surf the web whilst in flight using the 250Kbps satellite connection that the system has.
So as you can see from above when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner finally does come into service it will open up a whole new world of travel possibilities to all concerned.
