Since the start of the Autumn Season, the Canadian Rocky ski resorts have been blessed with record levels of snow falling. In fact, in January 2007 on average the amount of snow falling was between 26 and 50 cm for all resorts across the region. In fact, if you are looking for a great skiing holiday through the winter months then you cannot go far wrong and look at going to Canada. As you will soon discover Canadian Rockies snowfall is above average and certainly more falls here than at any other places where ski resorts are situated around the globe.
Although during September and October you will, daylight begins to become much less the days, themselves remain warm until later in the evening. This is when the cooling winds begin to rise. As for snowfall, this normally starts to occur during the month of November and may result in snowfall being around well in to the middle of summer. However, this normally depends of how many major blizzards occur through out the time when snow is likely to fall.
If you are looking to go skiing in the Rockies in the future, it is important to note that during December and January a cold snap can occur. At this time (normally a two-week period) temperatures can suddenly plummet to minus 30 degrees Celsius and only go up as high as minus 12. So ideally the best months to look at going to some of the resorts in the Canadian Rockies is during November, the beginning of December, end of January, February and March.
Yet although cold snaps do occur in the winter months, there are locations in the Rockies that have a weather phenomenon know as Chinooks. It is this weather which when it occurs can produce temperatures that are similar to those you would expect to see and feel during the months of spring. These can occur at any time and without any warning raising the temperatures up quickly in a few hours.
Although we mentioned high snowfall during the early part of 2006, the same occurred once again during the latter part of 2007. In fact Calgary which has some of the best ski resorts in the world reported that as much as 20 inches (50cm) of snow had fallen on the 3rd December 2007 in a 24 hour period.
So even today, you are likely to find that Canadian Rockies snowfall is still occurring and so will still offer you the chance to do some great skiing if you wish. A quick look on the internet and you will soon see which of the ski resorts throughout the Canadian Rockies are the best to visit currently as updates of snowfall are constantly being provided.
