As the economic crisis still grips the world more and more families are choosing to holiday in the UK rather than spending money they haven’t got on a holiday abroad. As you will soon discover there are plenty of wonderful places to go and things to do in the UK today. In this article we are going to be taking a look at what the beautiful area of The Cotswolds has to offer to families today.
A quick search online and you will be astounded at the number of towns and villages in this part of Southern England that have great accommodation, such as holiday homes and holiday cottages to offer to families. So just where should one consider staying when visiting this part of England that in many cases has been untouched? Below we look at some of the more favoured places that visitors to the Cotswolds choose to stay in when visiting this area.
1. Cheltenham Spa – This town is full of Georgian architecture and so is a very interesting place to explore. But as you stroll along wandering its streets there are plenty of museums, shops and gardens to spend time exploring as well. For those who want a bit of excitement during their stay make sure that you arrange your visit when the Cheltenham Gold Cup horse race takes place.
2. Bourton on the Water – Often referred to the as “The Venice of the Cotswolds” this village has many houses and cottages dating back to the times of Queen Elizabeth I. The River Windrush runs through this area and beside the villages Main Street and yet it is still easy to cross because of the many small stone bridges that span it. For those who are looking for a place to relax and unwind this is the village to do that in. During the summer spend time relaxing by the river watching the ducks swim by. But also there are some great attractions to enjoy in this village including the Miniature Village, a model railway and the Cotswold Perfumery.
3. Broadway – This is the largest of all the villages in the Cotswolds and is known as the “Jewel of the Cotswolds”. Whilst staying in the village take a trip out to the Broadway Tower Country Park just a few minutes’ drive from the heart of the village, which when it is a good day you are offered views over the 13 counties surrounding it after choosing to walk up to the top of the tower.
4. Chipping Camden – For those who are looking for the ideal location to spend some time exploring this beautiful part of England this is a village that should be considered. Has been given the honour of being named as being one of “the most beautiful villages in the UK”. However, there are also plenty of things to do and see when visiting this village such as the Old Silk Mill, The Market Hall and St James Church. Plus if you are intending to visit the village in the summer then take time out to watch their version of the Olympic Games. The Cotswold Olympics were established in 1612 and have been run annually since.
Above we have shown you just some of the wonderful places to visit or stay in when spending time in The Cotswolds. However, be prepared to revisit the area time and time again as you will find that you won’t be able to see and enjoy everything that this area of the UK has to offer during a few days or a week. You could also stay and enjoy this area and relax and unwind in perfect holiday cottage.
