Discover the other areas of Campania, Italy

Most people when they visit Campania, Italy tend to stick to the more popular destinations of this region such as Naples, Salerno and the Amalfi Coast. But if you are willing to then there are plenty of other wonderful places within this part of Italy for you to enjoy. So it is worth considering visiting Centola and Palinuro.
So what do these parts of Campania, Italy have to offer that you may enjoy? Below we take a look at some of the sights worth considering exploring during you time in this part of this country.
1. Centola – This is a very beautiful town with lots of picturesque alley ways for you to wander around. Making sure that you spend time visiting the bell tower which was constructed in 893AD and the Capuchin Convent built during the early part of the 17th Century.
2. San Severino – This borough has been abandoned for more than 500 years now and is situated on a rocky spur that rises nearly vertically over the Mingardo River. It was built here by the Languebards as it was the perfect place to be able to spot others who tried to invade their area because of its prominent position.
3. Palinuro – This town is just 7km from Centola and is renowned for being awarded a Blue Flag by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education). It was awarded not only because of the quality of the water and that the beaches are clean but the level of service that this town offers to its visitors. You have the choice of either spending time relaxing on its beaches soaking up the sun or trying out some local delicacies. The other choice you have is to explore other sights close by.
4. Palinuro Caves – At present only 35 submerged caves and grottoes have been discovered. There has been evidence found in many of the caves here such as the Grotta delle Ossa that shows prehistoric man was living in them. However, if you want the opportunity to be able to see the movements of the water within the caves caused by the thermal springs this can only be done by going scuba diving. One particular cave to do this in is the Sala della Neve as here you will see that the thermal springs have caused it to look as if snow is falling underwater.
5. Cilento Vallo di Diano National Park – This is a part of Campania that has the greatest variety different endemic species of fauna and flora of this part of Italy. However, if you really want to discover this areas real beauty which has not been contaminated then you will need to wear a stout pair of walking boots or shoes. As the only real way to explore this wonderful part of the region is using the many trekking paths. Plus if you intend to walk this area in the summer make sure that you take plenty of water and something to cover your head. Plus don’t forget to apply some sun lotion before you head off for the day.
