Little Known Facts about Niagara Falls
Date: 16 October 2009

When it comes to beautiful but rugged landscape this is what Canada can offer to those who choose to spend time exploring it.  However, there is one particular feature in Canada – Niagara Falls which is probably the most well known of all the naturally made features that visitors to this country tend to go to.

However, there are things that you may not know about these falls and below we take a look at just what some of them are.

1.  The falls are situated on the Niagara River but what you may not realise is that part of the falls are to be found in America as well as Canada.  In fact these falls straddle the border that lies between the Canadian Province of Ontario and the US State of New York.

2.  To reach the falls you can either travel from Buffalo, New York which lies 27 km (17 miles) to the north – northwest of them or you can travel to them from Toronto, which is 120 km (75 miles) to the south – southeast of them.

3. On either side of the border there is a city known as Niagara Falls and these have been twinned with each other.

4. There are two major sections to these falls which are separated by Goat Island.  On the Canadian side are the well known Horseshoe Falls whilst on the American side lies the American Falls.  Plus you will also find a much smaller set of Falls known as the Bridal Veil and these again are situated on the American side and are separated from the rest that make up Niagara Falls by Luna Island.

5. If you really want to truly understand the magnificence of the Horseshoe Falls it is important to view them from the Canadian Side of the Niagara River.   In fact why not take time to visit Queen Victoria Park as this is where spectacular views of both sets of falls (Horseshoe and American) are provided on platforms after wandering through its manicured gardens.

6. For those who would like to feel as they are within the falls with the water cascading over and above them they take a walk along one of the underground walkways.  These then lead to observation rooms which place you in a position where it feels as if you are inside the waterfalls.

7. For those who would like to view Canada – Niagara falls from above then a visit to the Skylon Tower is worth considering.  At the top you will find an observation deck offering you the chance to view the falls from above and allows you to look  at the land towards Toronto.

8. Finally when it comes to visiting Niagara Falls in Canada no trip would be complete without taking time to take a trip over the Whirlpool by going in the cable car known as the Aero Car.  So giving you a truly amazing view of this spectacular feature on the Canadian side of the falls.

However, as well as spending time exploring the falls and its surrounding area when it comes to Canada – Niagara Falls there is plenty of other activities to enjoy.   For those looking for a little further excitement then why not try your luck and visit one of the two casinos located close to them.
