According the the Office of National Statistics between April 2006 and May 2007, the number of visits made by overseas residents to the UK rose by 5 per cent, from 30.8 million to 32.4 million.
With so many visitors coming from abroad, it begs the question, are they all going to London or are other areas of the UK benefiting from these foreign tourists?
If we look back at the statistics from 2005, London was indeed the most popular city for overseas visitors. Just over half of the stays in 2005 included an overnight stay in London. However the most popular place outside of London was Edinburgh, followed by Manchester.
Hopefully bodies such as Visit Britain, will successfully promote other areas of the UK to our overseas visitors.
