Pet Travel
Date: 13 November 2007
If you have pets then no longer do you need to consider leaving them at home when you choose to go on vacation. Certainly many dogs and cats find that when their owners go away rather than opting for a sitting service they prefer to confine their pet to a boarding kennels instead. Which not only costs money but also puts a large amount of stress on the animal as well. However as long as your pet has the right inoculations then travelling with them is made much easier. Below we offer some tips with regards to pet travel.

It is important that if you are considering taking your pet with you when travelling then it is vital that you remember to bring the following items with you.

1.Take their favourite bed and toy with you.
2.Make sure that you bring sufficient amounts of the food that they are use to eating otherwise giving them food that they have not eaten before may well upset their digestive system.
3.Also make sure that you bring along both originals and copies of all the necessary documentation that your pet will need. Especially those which show the injections that they have had including that they have had an injection against rabies.
4.You need to also bring with you their collar, leash and an identification tag, plus photographs of your pet and your vets phone number.

If you are travelling in a car with your pet to your vacation destination then it is important that you make sure that you carry out some of the following, especially if the trip is a long one.

1.You should stop every 100 miles or so (or every 3 hours) in order to give your pet a chance to have walk, empty their bladder and get a drink.
2.With a dog it is important that you either place them in the right kind of travelling case or else that they are strapped into the vehicle using a special harness. Both of these items you should be able to purchase from any good pet store or on-line. Plus when taking your dog out of the car ensure that they remain on a leash at all times.
3.At no time should you leave your pet alone in the vehicle for any length of time. This is especially important in those locations where the temperature changes are going to be extreme. But if you do need to leave them in the vehicle for any period of time then make sure that they have sufficient amounts of water, food and air.

So as long as you keep the above pointers in mind then travelling with your pet will not be as difficult as you first imagined. As you can see when it comes to pet travel ensuring that you have everything that not only your pet needs but all the right documentation as well is vitally important to ensure that both you and your pet have an enjoyable vacation.
