Today more and more people are taking an additional weeks vacation during the winter months and spending their time skiing. Compared to some 10 years ago the prices of such skiing vacations are greatly reduced especially in Europe where snowfall has not been as high as it would normally be. This is probably why more and more people are looking further a field to take their skiing vacation. Once such place for such as vacation is Homer, Alaska. In this article we look at why skiing in Homer, Alaska is becoming more popular.
Homer, Alaska is not only renowned for it is skiing but it also offers visitors a great summer vacation spot as well. The summers here are incredibly beautiful, but it is probably the winter months and the activities that are being offered in this resort that are making it extremely popular with skiers from around the world. In fact it offers you the chance to try some extremely diverse winter sports along with skiing.
Along with the skiing you can try a number of different winter activities, some of which require little activity on your part. If you want why not take a ride into the backcountry to view the Caribou by taking a trip out on one of the sleds owned by many of the Homer residents. But if you want a little more excitement when out for a sled ride then why not see if you can take part in a sled race.
However if you are someone who is a keen skier and would like to try something a little different, Homer offers you the chance to do some cross country skiing. At this resort you have the opportunity to try out three different cross-country skiing trails. Any one of the three offer you miles and miles of trails to ski through and enjoy the scenery around you.
The great thing about the Baycrest Diamond Ridge trail is that it is maintained throughout the year so no longer are you restricted to going their during the winter months. Whilst the trails at Ohlson Mountain are fantastic if you want to watch or even participate in some cross-country skiing races. Whilst the final trail is situated in McNeil Canyon and this is for those who are looking for a more out of the way trail to tackle.
But for those who are more interested in doing some Alpine skiing then why not take a trip to Ohlson Mountain in Homer. It is here where you can take a trip on the 800ft rope tow run by the Kachemak Ski Club, which will take you past the cross-country trails and allow you to do the kind of skiing that you came to Homer for.
Yet if you want to relax and take a break from skiing in Homer, Alaska then why not spend some time using one of the two ice skating rinks that they have to offer. Or if you really want to relax and unwind why not try a spot of winter fishing instead.
