At the beginning of July 2007 a nationwide ban on smoking in enclosed public and work places was introduced in the UK. By doing this the British Government were hoping to improve and provide a much healthier environment for all those living in the UK. The most common places where the smoking ban in the UK has really made a difference is in restaurants, pubs and other locations where food and drink are consumed.
However although there are still thousands of people in the UK who smoke in order to cater to their needs designated smoking areas (smoking shelters) have been established. In many cases these areas come with not only a covered area but also seating and tables where those who do still can sit down and relax whilst having one.
Today there are numerous different kinds of shelters that a business in the UK can use in order to provide an area where smokers can go. For some rather than spending considerable sums of money allocating a specific area for smoking. Instead what they do is choose a location outside the businesses premises where their customers and employees are able to comfortably enjoy having a cigarette should they so wish to.
But wherever they do locate the smoking area the business must ensure that no more than 50% of the smoke that is produced from the cigarettes is allowed to gain access to the property. So if the business wants to they actually have the right to build a room that is completely separate from the rest of the property and in to which smokers can go.
When the smoking ban in the UK came into force it was important that all businesses knew exactly what was required of them to ensure that they met the regulations. By doing this they would ensure that they would not be violating the law and which if they did could end up casing them a fine of over £1,000. Below we offer a quick summary of what the regulations of the no smoking ban are.
1. The right kind of signage now needs to be displayed in prominent positions informing all that the area is a no smoking area. 2. All signage on premises today in the UK must contain the wording "No Smoking. It is Against The Law To Smoke In These Premises". 3. All entrances to premises which are smoke free mush have a smoking prohibition symbol clearly displayed that is 70mm in diameter. 4. Finally another regulation of the smoking ban in the UK which needs to be met is that all forms of public transport (buses, trains and taxis) must display no smoking symbols on them.
