Generally when we Brits travel abroad we don’t consider Germany as a possible holiday destination. Rather what we intend to do is head for those countries in the summer such as Spain, Portugal , Italy or Greece where there is plenty of sunshine and wonderful beaches to be enjoyed. Whilst when winter comes around for skiing holidays we prefer countries such as France, Austria or Switzerland.
Yet what you may not realize is that Germany has a wealth of wonderful places that you can explore and enjoy no matter what time of year it is. Along with the more well known cities such as Berlin there are many other wonderful ones to visit such as Heidelberg and Trier. In fact both offer you the chance to explore some of the countries real history.
In terms of accommodation you can either choose to stay in some wonderful self catering villas or cottages in Germany. Plus for those that really do have money to spend then how about staying a night in one of Germany’s wonderful old castles for a couple of nights.
But along with its beautiful scenery there are plenty of wonderful sites to visit and things to do. For those that enjoy any form of motorsport throughout the year there are numerous motor events taking place from The Formula 1 GP to the Motorbike Races including the MotoGP or World Superbikes. Generally such events take place at the Hockenheim Circuit, the Nurberg Ring or Sachsen Ring.
Then if you intend to visit Germany during the autumn it is worth arranging some accommodation in Munich where you can enjoy the Oktoberfest that takes place throughout late September and early October. Not only can you have the chance to try and wide range of specially brewed beers but also enjoy the fun of what is considered to be the world’s largest fair. This 16 day celebration now attracts around 6 million people to it each year.
Also a wonderful time for holidaying in Germany is at Christmas time when you have a chance to really enjoy a very special time of year there. Throughout December you will find numerous towns and cities set up their Christmas markets where one can buy wonderful gifts to take home to loved ones as well as try many of the local specialty foods and drinks. Certainly no one should ever go to a German Christmas Market without trying some Gluwein or some Stollen Cake.
As you can see from above the country of Germany has so much to offer those who chose to holiday there. So if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle that a traditional summer holiday has to offer where you fight for space on the beach then taking time out to visit and explore this wonderful country is something worth considering.
