Stay and Relax in Edinburgh, Scotland
Date: 19 June 2009
The capital city of Scotland is Edinburgh and yet is the second largest of all the Scottish cities. The largest of these being Glasgow. It has been the capital of Scotland since 1437 and today there are plenty of things to do and see that allow you to learn more about this city’s rich and wild history.

The city itself is situated along the Firth of Forth on the South East side of Scotland and close to the North Sea. Yet although it is situated in an area of the UK that sees a large amount of changeable weather it is a wonderful and picturesque city to visit.

This city has a very colorful history and offers a great many places for you to visit during your stay or visit. Below we look at just some of the attractions that couples and families can enjoy during their time in this wonderful city.

Edinburgh Dungeon – Located on Market Street this attraction looks back at some of the darker periods in this cities life. This is one where you will be required to interact with the rides and people as you move around the attraction that blends humour and horror together well. However, this isn’t an attraction suitable for young children.

Royal Observatory – Located at Blackford Hill in Edinburgh here you will find one of Scotland’s largest telescopes. However, there are plenty of activities for you to enjoy as you wander around this attraction from interactive exhibits to do with prisms and light to a computer aided gallery relating to astronomy and space. Plus why not spend time enjoying the wonderful panoramic view from this across the whole city.

Auld Reekie Tours – If you aren’t afraid then it is worth taking the time out to go on what is probably the world’s scariest ghost tour. Halfway between Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle on the cities Royal Mile is Tron Kirk and from it is here that these tours commence. As part of the tour you are taken down into the underground vaults which are believed to be where a great deal of haunting activity takes place.

As you enjoy this tour (or not) you learn more about the city’s historical dark side such as Grave robbers, witchcraft and of course the city’s many ghosts. During your time in the vaults you will spend time in one that is lit only by candles to learn about the fate of many of the children that were used to sweep the chimneys of this city a couple of centuries ago.

Edinburgh Zoo – For those who are going to be spending time with their family in this city it is worth considering taking a trip to this attraction. Here you and your family will have the chance to spend time observing some of the rarest and most beautiful animals from around the world. Along with its pride of Asiatic Lions the kids will enjoy watching the Chimpanzees in their enclosure which has been designed with a central walk way so they can be observed from all sides.
