What Wales Has to Offer
Date: 11 September 2009

Pembrokeshire, Wales offers you some of the most unique and beautiful countryside in all of the United Kingdom.  In fact this part of Wales is a favourite with artists and those who enjoy all forms of outdoor pursuits.  So finding something to do whilst visiting this part of Wales shouldn’t prove too much of a problem for couples and families alike.

So what can Pembrokeshire offer to those who choose to spend a weekend or weeks holiday here?  Below we look at some of the attractions that are available to those visiting.

1.  Whale And Dolphin Watching – This tour leaves from St Justinian which is located 2 miles from St David’s and last around 2.5 hours.  As you leave from the port of St Justinian you will head south towards Ramsey Island and then out to the west into the Irish Sea taking you just offshore from the Island of Grassholm.

As you move towards Grassholm you will normally be able to spot several harbour porpoises before then viewing the second largest colony of breeding gannets in the world’s northern Hemisphere.  Also you may be in luck if the weather is good on your tour to see some Atlantic Grey Seals in the water fishing.

Dependent on how the weather is when you take your tour then the boat with take a northerly or southerly route and allows the boat to sweep along the Celtic Deep edge.  This is where the chances to view a large number of dolphins and whales in their natural habit will occur.  Along with you possibly seeing some Common, Bottlenose, Rissos and White sided dolphins you may even see some Minke, Fin, Pilot and Killer Whales.

2. Picton Castle – This castle was built more than 850 years ago and has been ancestral home of the Philipp’s family and are direct descendants of the castles founder Sir John Wogan.  Throughout the summer months you are able to enjoy a guided tour of the castle enjoying many of its original features.

Plus along with the castle itself there are 40 acres of gardens which one can enjoy.  If you intend to visit this attraction in the spring then take time to wander through its Woodland garden.  Intermingled with the wild flowers common to this part of Wales you will find some beautiful shrubs from other parts of the world.

This is the perfect place to visit at all times of the year in Pembrokeshire when looking for some peace and quiet.  The gardens allow you to wander around them at a pace to suit you and even have spots where time can be spent relaxing and enjoying what surrounds you.  Yet also it offers plenty of events during the summer months that will keep the children amused including events held in its open air theatre (weather permitting).
