Why Not Ski in Italy this Winter?
Date: 24 September 2010
A great many people visiting Tuscany, Italy will choose to do so during the summer months. However what many of these people do not realize is that this part of Italy actually offers some superb resorts where skiing takes place.

In this part of Italy is to be found the largest mountain range known as the Appenine and within it are be located several resorts. However, although you may want to spend all your holiday skiing these resorts are ideally located to visit other major cities in Tuscany such as Pisa, Bologna, Florence and Lucca.

Of all the resorts that is located in this part of Italy the largest of them is known as Abetone. This is in fact located at 1,400 metres above sea level and is located on the border between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany. Although this particular resort has only recently become popular with skiers from across Europe it has been a favourite with Italians for more than 70 years.

This resort has 80 km (50 miles) of steep and powdery slopes which run down into four valleys called Sestaione, Luce, Lima and Scoltenna. There is a total of 37 slopes a this resort all of which are tree lined and to reach the top of them is achieved by using one of the 21 modern gondolas and chairlifts installed.

Along with ski runs that are suitable for those who have skied previously there is a great nursery slope available who have never tried this sport before. Also to further help those who have never skied before there are five schools that offer a variety of different lessons and all have instructors who speak perfect English. Also the slopes on which beginners learn are very wide and gentle so mastering even the most basic skiing techniques shouldn’t prove that difficult.

The great thing about this resort due to the height where it is situated the ski season here compared to some others resorts in Italy is quite long. In most cases the season begins around the start of December and doesn’t come to an end until the end of April. However if snow fall is not as good as hoped they have the facilities to great artificial snow on the slopes as well. So providing you with a truly amazing skiing holiday.

To reach this particular resort is easy you can either drive from Pisa or Lucca, both of which have airports where regular flights arrive from across Europe throughout the year. However, if you don’t’ want to drive for too long then book flights to Lucca Airport as this is situated around 45 minutes from the resort. Whereas the airport located in Pisa is around 117km (just over 73 miles) away and can upwards of 1.5 hours to reach by car.

Although the resort of Abetone in Tuscany, Italy is a great place to enjoy skiing you should also consider the resort of Mount Cimone located in the medieval village of Fiumalbo. This one has a total of 24 runs but is suitable for those who have skied before.

If you dont fancy staying in one of the many resorts that are available, or you fancy some of your creature comforts why not consider staying on one of the many holiday homes in Italy that are advertised on Click4holidayhomes.com
